How to best prepare for NYSC passing out parade (POP)

To prepare for your passing out parade, you should do the following:

  1. Participate actively in all NYSC activities

Pay attention to your work at your place of primary assignment, attend CDS, and make sure you clear yourself monthly at the secretariat as it is proof that you are still a serving corps member.

  1. Get clearance from your PPA

Three weeks to your pop, you will need a final clearance form from your employer without which you will not be a worthy candidate for the discharge certificate.

Having this in mind, you must be of good behavior as no local government inspector or zonal inspector will clear you if your employer doesn’t.

  1. Get cleared by the zonal and local government Inspectors

These persons will sign on the form you got from your employer and also other forms like 4b, and CDs clearance form, etc.

  1. Make Necessary payments

You will be required to pay a certain amount of money. The amount varies as it is dependent on the local government.

What I remember vividly is paying for a magazine containing photographs of all passing out corps members in the state arranged according to their various local governments. Don’t worry, you will get the magazine on the parade ground.

  1.  Attend meetings

Before your pop, meetings will be arranged for all corps members to pass out. In this meeting, vital information about the deal day is explained and attendance is very important. Some corps members have been disqualified from getting the discharge certificate as a result of being absent from this meeting.

Surprised! Yes, this is what gave rise to the popular slang “it is not over until it is over”. You are still a corps member until you have your discharge certificate. Be careful.

  1. Be on your complete uniform (7/7)

Prepare your uniform, iron them and look neat. Remember what you were taught in camp about dressing don’t fly shirts, don’t wear colored shoes, etc. these things could cost you your discharge certificate.

Arrive at the venue on time and sit quietly listening to and obeying all instructions. Remember the last days of every man is dangerous.

Also, amidst your complete uniform is your ID card it is very essential for that day as it is what you will use in exchange for your discharge certificate.

Finally, you are ready but stay calm until you have your discharge certificate then you can party all you want after carefully putting your certificate away.
