The management of the National Youth Service Corps,(NYSC), Taraba State, has reacted to the heavy rainfall that caused a major disaster and injured some Corps members at the orientation camp. The occurrence was described by the management as a natural disaster.

This followed protest by corps members about the disaster, which led to the injury of an undisclosed number of corps members.

The NYSC spokesperson, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, in reacting to the report said that the rainstorm blew off some of the camp’s roof, injuring corps members in the process.

She said the occurrence was beyond the scheme’s control, adding that repairs work had since commenced in the camp.

According to her, the injured Corps members were taken to the state’s Federal Medical Centre(FMC) after the incident, noting that some of them have been discharged.

“There was a rainfall, no doubt about that, that is a natural disaster, which is beyond anybody’s control. There was a rainfall yesterday in Taraba and it blew off the roof in some places, injuring some corps members. They have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

“The state government has visited them and they have commenced repair works at the camp. Renovation is ongoing.

“The last time there was a rainstorm, the camp is always renovated. There is no fatality and some of the injured corps members are already returning to camp,” she added.
