NYSC trains Public Relations Officers for Improved Efficiency and Effectiveness
The Public Relations Officers of the National Youth Service Corps from all states of the federation and the FCT are attending a training workshop in Abuja.
The workshop, which has the theme: "For Improved Efficiency and Effectiveness" is taking place at Rockview Hotel.
Declaring the programme open, the Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, described as 'impressive' the performance of a good number of the scheme's PROs both at the Headquarters and the State Secretariats.
He went on to commend them for the zeal, commitment and professionalism with which they have been discharging their duties.
The Director-General said the resuscitation of the PROs workshop was partly due to the challenges posed to the scheme by the misconception of its operations by a section of the public.
"This workshop is in continuation of Management's commitment to ensuring that officers saddled with the responsibility of managing the image of the scheme are equipped with the right knowledge and skills for better performance, and to keep them abreast of developments in the business of information, crisis and client relations management," Kazaure said.
He called on the PROs to remain focused in line with the scheme's determination to enhance operational efficiency, just as he assured them that the Management would continue to provide the enabling environment for them to perform optimally.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Abosede Aderibigbe, recalled that the PROs workshop was last held in 2014 but noted it had helped in honing the skills of the officers in the discharge of their duties as image managers of the scheme.
Aderibigbe said this year's workshop was meant to provide avenue for brainstorming on current trends in tackling operational challenges.
She particularly stressed that the programme would strengthen the participants' competence in driving the Director-General's four-point agenda to success.
The Director used the occasion to call on the PROs to ensure effective mobilization of public support for the scheme, especially at the grassroots.
She praised the Director-General for his commitment to meeting the training needs of all cadres of staff.
