Presidential Aide seeks NYSC's support for SDGs
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulure has sought the support of the NYSC towards achieving the SDGs.
She made the request during a courtesy visit to the Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, in his office.
Adefulure, who described the NYSC as a good platform for dissemination of information on the SDGs, called for a partnership that would involve the engagement of Corps members to enlighten communities on the global agenda for development.
She said the Corps members would be expected to participate in the various SDGs programmes in their communities of service.
The SSA noted that the platform would also give Corps members sense of direction, promote leadership traits in them as well as boost their confidence.
Adefulure advocated the establishment of more skills centres with the view of empowering Corps members towards self-employment.
She noted that similar centres built in all Local Government Areas of Lagos State during her tenure as Women Affairs Commissioner were still functional, and had gone a long way in empowering people of the benefiting communities.
Responding, the Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, appreciated the Office of the SSA for the existing partnership aimed at empowering Corps members under the NYSC/SDGs War Against Poverty.
Kazaure also noted that the NYSC had partnered with the OSSAP towards achieving the goals of the erstwhile MDGs in an arrangement that engaged Corps members in the advocacy project.
He assured that the Scheme's readiness to support the achievements of the SDGs.
