Francis O. Oguaju, a serving Corps member at Babayaro Memorial International School Mariri, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, with state code number : KN/17B/2515, has provided dumpsters to the community.
Francis is a graduate of Business management at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State. He is native of Ubulu Village, in Eziowelle Community in Idemilli North LGA of Anambra.
"I found the problem of poor sanitation, bad waste management culture & practices and absent of waste disposal facility in Zara (my host community). So I decided to embark on waste management as my NYSC personal community development project", he said.
According to him, the project had three phases. The first phase was the sensitization exercise of students and residents on waste management. The second phase was provision of dumpster to enable the people dispose their waste. The third and final phase was embarking on a rally/walk to further sensitize members of the community on waste management by distributing flyers and books on environment management.
The project was solely sponsored by the AFRICAN CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION (ACEP), who also supported the project with T-shirts, flyers, banners, and environmental books.
The project was commissioned by Kano State NYSC Coordinator, Alh. Landan Baba. Other personalities at the commissioning of the project were: Director of CDS, local Government Inspector, Civil Defense, Nigerian Police Force, Proprietress BMIS, Chair & Board BMIS, PTA Chairman BMIS, Community leader, Fire Service, NGGA Kano, Ministry of Health, KEDCO, Youth Corps Members, Boys Brigade, Girls Guide, FARM, FGBMFI, Students and Community members.
Oguaju's place of primary assignment is Babayaro Memorial International School Mariri, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State.
