2,030 Corps members mobilized for Batch B Stream 1 in Edo

NYSC - National Youth Service Corps

The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, expressed his delight over his identification with the NYSC scheme due to the various contributions it has made towards the state development.

The Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shuaibu, represented the Governor at the temporary orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Okada, Edo State, during the opening ceremony of the NYSC orientation camp of the 2016 Batch B stream 1 with a total number of 2,030 corps members in attendance. He emphasized that the NYSC was intended to serve as a medium for national unity, integration and even further expand the much needed professional manpower in the country.

The Edo State coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Japhet Akyam, who also spoke at the event said that the number consist of prospective corps members who were properly registered at the close of registration on Friday. She also complained about the lack of facilities at the orientation camp and appealed to Governor Obaseki to come to their aid.

In response to the state coordinator, the Deputy Governor of Edo State said the state government will continue to support the NYSC in order to create jobs and develop the state. He also warned corps members to shun social vices thus: ” I expect you to be involved in the fight against economic crimes, drug trafficking, women and child trafficking, through mass and adult literacy programmes, community healthcare delivery services and other programmes of government.”

The swearing in of corps members was led by Justice Anthony Irabor, who represented the Chief Judge of Edo state, Justice Cromwell Idahosa.
