967 Corps Members Undergo Nysc/Boi Gef Training

967 Corps members are participating in the second edition of the NYSC-BOI Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund (GEF) training.

The training, which is taking place simultaneously in seven centres across the country, is aimed at tackling the high incident of youth unemployment in Nigeria. The GEF is designed to deepen financial inclusion by de-risking the NYSC members and making them eligible for small business loans.

DEATH OF OLADEPO RACHAEL: NYSC RELEASES FINDINGS OF INQUIRY

The National Youth Service Corps has released the findings of an inquiry into the death of a Corps member of the 2016 Batch ‘B’ (Stream I), Oladepo Ifedolapo Racheal, stressing that the allegation of negligence made in the social media was unfounded.

The Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, handed the report to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, when the latter paid a condolence visit to the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters today.

FG condoles families of deceased Corps Members

The Federal Government has condoled with the families of the three Corps members who died during the on-going 2016 Batch ‘B’ (Stream I) Orientation Course in Bayelsa, Kano and Zamfara States.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, conveyed the government’s condolences when he visited the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters today.

The National Youth Service Corps has advised prospective Corps members to always give correct information on their states of health while registering for mobilization into the Scheme.

The Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, gave the advice when he addressed the 2016 Batch 'B' (Stream I) Corps members at the Orientation camps in Anambra and Delta States.

Recession: NYSC asks for subsidized feeding

The State Government has been requested by the Enugu State Command of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), to subsidize the feeding of the Corps members, due to the increase in their population. The Enugu State Coordinator, Mrs.Nwano Ukagha, made this plea on Monday at the State Orientation Camp in Awgu, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2016 Batch B Corps members. She said that regardless of all the support given to them by the state, they are still forced to ask for more, especially in the provision of Camp facilities.

NYSC DG tasks Corps Members on diligent service

Corps members have been urged to render diligent service to the nation in whatever endeavour they are posted to serve.

The Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, made the call while addressing the 2016 Batch 'B' (Stream I) Corps members at the NYSC Zamfara State Orientation Camps A and B both located in Tsafe town.

He enjoined them to use the period of the service to contribute their qouta to the progress and development of the country.

Zamfara earmarks 38M for Camp Renovation

The Zamfara State Government has earmarked the sum of thirty-eight million naira for the rehabilitation of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in the state.

The State's Deputy Governor, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad, disclosed this when he received the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, in Gusau.

He in spite of the present economic challenges in the country, the state government will carry out the rehabilitation work in the camp because it recognizes the important role the NYSC plays in fostering unity and development.

Lagos bye-election: INEC trains 3,440 corps members

A three day training of 3,440 corp members by the Independent National Electoral Commission in preparation for the forthcoming bye-election on the 3rd of December, in the Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency in Lagos had commenced. The figure was given by John Idem, the Director/Administrative Secretary of the Electoral Institute of INEC in Abuja during the inspection tour of the training locations in Lagos on Thursday.

Corper receives automatic employment for riding a bicycle from Oyo to Benue

Mr. Isaac Sekav Ahungwa, a former National Youth Service Corp member has been offered an automatic employment after his youth service by the governor of Benue state, Governor Samuel Ortom, after riding a bicycle, on completion of his national youth service year, from Oyo state where he served to his home state capital, Markurdi.

 

Mr. Ahungwa who graduated from the Federal University of Agriculture, Markurdi, from the department of Statistics embarked on a 14-day ride to Markurdi to present his discharge certificate to the governor.

NYSC bags best MDA award on innovative deployment in ICT

The National Youth Service Corps has been conferred with the best MDA award for the innovative deployment of Information and Communications Technology.

This came at the e-Nigeria 2016 e-Governance dinner and award ceremony with the theme: “Leveraging on IT Innovation for Economic Diversification” organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with an Indian IT company, Nihilent Technologies, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Ondo 2016 Election: Be neutral and non-partisan, NYSC DG tells Corps Members.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Suleman Zakari Kazaure has called on Corps members in Ondo State to be neutral and avoid any form of partisanship as they prepare to participate in Saturday's gubernatorial election.

Brigadier General Kazaure gave the warning while addressing Corps members at the Dome international event centre, Akure in Ondo State as part of preparations to ensure a hitch free participation of corps members in the Ondo elections.

Trade unions in the National Youth Service Corps have praised the Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, over the practical steps he is taking to motivate staff of the Scheme.

NSCDC operative, corps member drown in Bayelsa boat mishap

An operative of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and a National Youth Service Corps member have drowned in Bayelsa State.

They were said to have been drowned in a boat that capsized along the waterways of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that the unnamed NSCDC personnel was confirmed dead on Wednesday during an operational tour along the Lobia area of the Southern Ijaw waterways.

Killer Of Kaduna NYSC Member Pleads Guilty

Adamu Jibril, the suspect arrested in connection with the murder of NYSC member in  Kaduna State, Lawal Auwal Kontagora, has confessed to committing thecrime.

Jibril, 22, said he killed the late Kontagora to stop him from dating a girl his friend wanted to go out with.  

The suspect, who lives in Malali, while speaking with newsmen in Kaduna, said his friend, Aminu Bahago, approached him to help him confront a man he suspected to be dating a girl he had  interest in.

NYSC extends service year of 60 corps members, sanctions 24 over misconduct in Delta

Authorities of the National Youth Service Corps have sanctioned 24 members, allegedly for indiscipline, misconduct and breach of the NYSC Bye-Laws.

They form part of the 2,657 NYSC Batch B, Stream 11, 2015 corps members that passed out in Delta State.

Eighty of them were remobilised, 60 others are facing extension of service, while four of the corps members bagged state awards for excellence.

The awardees are: Kenechukwu Ezeugo, Omotayo Taiwo, Onyeukwu Stanley and Ayim Chinemerem Ogechi.

Police arrest one for killing corper in Kaduna

The Police Command in Kaduna State on Saturday said it had arrested a suspected murderer of a National Youth Service Corps serving in the state.

The command’s Public Relation Officer, ASP Aliyu Usman, said that the kingpin was arrested on November 2.

Usman said the suspect, Adamu Jibrin, 22, had made useful statement to the police on the offence.

He said, “We recovered six loaded cartridges, two knives, two cutlass, a double barrel and one Samsung phone in his room at Unguwar Yero Area in Kaduna.”

2016 Batch 'B': NYSC to mobilize all ELIGIBLE graduates

The National Youth Service Corps has assured that all eligible graduates will be mobilized for the 2016 Batch 'B' service year.

The Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, gave the assurance during his maiden parley with the media in Abuja.

Kazaure said this followed a Federal Government's directive to that effect.

He said what was left of the provision made for mobilization of Corps members in the 2016 budget could only accommodate eighty-six thousand prospective Corps members.

Orientation camps facilities obsolete, dilapidated – NYSC DG

Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, the Director-General, National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), on Tuesday lamented the obsolete, dilapidated and grossly inadequate facilities at the orientation camps across the country.

Kazaure made the observation in Calabar during the 2016 `Batch B’ Pre-orientation Workshop organised for stakeholders to fashion out ways for a successful orientation programme.

According to him, the panacea for the challenge is for all the three tiers of government to live up to their statutory roles in the operations of the scheme.
